Personal Retirement

How much can I put in?

An individual may be able to invest up to $5,000 a year and a working married couple may be able to put away as much as $10,000 a year for tax year 2008. Exactly how much you can contribute depends on your age, the amount of your earned income and whether or not you are eligible to participate in an employer retirement plan. Your non-working spouse may also be able to  also contribute up to $5,000 a year (depending on age, your and your spouse's income and participation in an employer retirement plan). At age 50 and older, you may be able to contribute up to an additional $1.000/year.As your professional tax or financial advisor about your particular situation.
