A mutual fund is a collection of stocks, bonds or other securities owned by investors and professionally managed.
In a mutual fund, your money is pooled with other investors and the money manager invests the pooled money into securities such as stocks, bonds, options and currencies. You, the investor, own shares of the mutual fund and are a shareholder of the fund.
Different mutual funds have different goals—with varying degrees of risk and return—to help you meet a wide range of investment objectives.
