Are you ready to switch your checking account to WaMu? We're happy to welcome you. Just follow these four simple steps.
Step 1. Open your new WaMu checking account. You can open your WaMu Free Checking™ online right now! You can start using your new account as soon as your funds have cleared. You may also visit any WaMu branch or call 800.788.7000 anytime to open your account.
Step 2. Set up direct deposit. Use our handy Direct Deposit Authorization form (.PDF, 80KB) to inform the folks who make these payments where to deposit your money. (This file requires Adobe® Reader® to be opened and printed.) Remember: changes to direct deposit can take up to 30 days.
Ask your boss or HR department if there is any other information they will need to setup Direct Deposit. Usually it’s your personal information, new bank account and routing numbers (including a copy of a voided check), deposit information and your authorization.
You'll also need to switch any Social Security funds or other regular income automatically deposited into your old account to your new WaMu checking account.
